Introduction
Are you using so-called Luxurious Soap in your daily routine and wondering why we still facing skin problems? So here is a fact you should be aware about so-called luxurious soaps. Many commercial soaps aren’t Soap…they are Synthetic Detergents that have Phthalates and Parabens. These are known to have harmful effects from cancer to infertility.
Chemical-based colorants, dyes, fragrances, lathering agents, preservatives, and other “things” we can’t pronounce can wreak havoc on our skin and hair and even pollute our drinking water.
Glycerine is a naturally occurring by-product of the saponification process (The process we use to create soap!) Glycerine is a humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the air to your skin, leaving your skin soft and moisturized. The irony is many commercial soap manufacturers (even the so-called Natural Skincare Brands) remove the glycerine and then sell it separately, or use it in a second product—moisturizer.
Animal Cruelty
Does your soap have tallowate, lard, goats milk, silk, or honey? Maybe stearic acid and glycerin?
Not only are these items harvested from animals, but the current age benefits are questionable. While some of these ingredients may aid with cleaning and add some vitamins, some of them have been shown to irritate the skin and cause other side effects.
One of the concerns when using products that contain tallow is the purity of the animal parts from which it’s derived. According to the FDA, “to protect against bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), also known as “mad cow disease,” cosmetics may not be manufactured from, processed with, or otherwise contain prohibited cattle materials.”
Tallow in cosmetic products approved by the FDA is one thing, but you should have this in mind if you buy local skincare products containing tallow, or non-FDA approved. There are health concerns about using tallow that isn’t manufactured following the strict rules the FDA issued.
Problems concerning the purity of tallow is the diet of the animals from which its obtained. It’s impossible to know for sure how the animals were treated before they ended up where they did. Usually, you buy products containing tallow from companies that don’t breed animals but rather buy the ingredient from companies in the meat industry. It’s hard to follow the trace and get first-hand information.
*With commercial soaps being so chemical-heavy, up to roughly 1,400 animals suffer to make sure that it meets the needed safety requirements.
