Vitamin E
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant vitamin that protects cells from oxidative damage and supports overall skin and hair health. In skincare, Vitamin E (often labeled as tocopherol or tocopheryl acetate) helps neutralise free radicals, unstable molecules generated by sunlight and pollution that can break down collagen and accelerate aging. Its antioxidant action also supports moisture retention and skin barrier health, making it a common ingredient in Vitamin E serums, creams, oils, and moisturisers. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Vitamin E contributes to antioxidant defence in the body and is essential for skin and cellular protection.

In topical formulations, vitamin E is valued for its moisturising, soothing, and protective properties. It helps improve skin softness, supports healing of dry or damaged skin, and enhances overall skin comfort. Vitamin E does not treat pigmentation or acne directly, but by strengthening the skin barrier and reducing inflammation, it supports healthier-looking skin and hair over time. It is commonly combined with other antioxidants such as vitamin C for enhanced protection.
